Today on Show Us your life Friday - it's "how you met your husband/wife/fiancee". All of you sweet girls who are single.....I hope maybe you will find some stories on this tour to give you hope! God is still writing your story! :-)

This is my story - I shared this about 3 years ago - but here it is again!

Once upon a time there was a cute little boy named Scott who was born in Magnolia, AR

and one state away in Dallas, TX there lived a little girl named Kelly
They both grew up in wonderful Christian homes with loving parents

As you can see they lived in similar styled home and liked to do the same things (ha!)

Scott grew up in the same house in the same town his whole life.

Kelly went to six different schools in six years and lived in Dallas, New Orleans, Benton, AR and Ft. Worth, TX

But they both spent junior high and high school in small towns in Arkansas and Kelly was a cheerleader and Scott played football.

Scott went to college at SAU and Kelly went to Ouachita and they both graduated college but neither one found the "one" in college

But Kelly did make a best friend in college who just "happened" to be Scott's cousin (or maybe God divinely planned it that way) and she decided to fix them up. So in June 2000 they met for a blind date.
This is a picture of Scott and Kelly on their third date.

(I knew he was the one after the second date. I finally felt AT HOME! )

And then after 3 1/2 years of dating........

they finally said "I do" on November 1, 2003

And that is really just the beginning of the story!

We've been married 6 1/2 years and every year just gets better!

Show Us Your Life - Teacher Gifts

Since I'm not a teacher and Harper doesn't have teachers yet - I don't have any ideas for you. I do try to do a little something for all her nursery workers at church because I appreciate them so much. So if you have great ideas or cute gifts - I'd LOVE your ideas!!!

Show Us Your Life - Organization Tips

I like to think I'm semi organized. I keep a million lists and a zillion excel spreadsheets. I feel like ever since I had Harper I am the most disorganized human on earth. I keep losing things. Just yesterday I lost my debit card. THANK GOODNESS - I lost it at church and they found it and called me. I have gone to the grocery store and had a cart full of groceries and then realized I left my wallet at home. I have locked my keys in the car a lot. I feel like I have lost my mind.

So - I'm passing the buck to all of you on this one - what are your best organization tips? The cleaning tips were great! I'm still reading through and getting ideas! Hope you are too!

Have a wonderful Good Friday! I'm so thankful for Jesus and that He died on the cross for our sins. I know I don't deserve His grace AT ALL but He loves me anyway. And the same goes for each of you! I love Easter dresses and Easter baskets and egg hunts ............but more than anything I love what this weekend is about - that our sins were paid for by the blood of Jesus and because of His sacrifice we can spend eternal life in Heaven with Him!!! I can't think of anything more wonderful than that! You just think Easter lunch is good now - wait until you are eating at the banquet table in Heaven!!! :-)

Show us your life - Cleaning Tips

I LOVE cleaning products! I am always walking down the Target or Wal-Mart cleaning aisles and just browsing for anything new that will make my life easier or our house more clean.
I'm looking forward to reading your tips - I really hope someone has good tips on keeping your glass shower streak free and clean and the best method for mopping floors. With a BUSY toddler - I feel like I can never get our kitchen floor clean enough anymore. She is constantly dropping food or her sippy cup or some kind of mess.

My tips are mostly:
1. My house may not always be completely dust free or mopped to perfection - but it is "picked up" and "neat". I try to go just keep the rooms clutter free so they have the appearance of being clean. Harper mostly plays in our family room and during the day it can be a disaster and I have learned to let it go......but every night after she is in bed - I pick up all the toys so at least for a few hours it looks clean.
2. I make our bed every single day - rain or shine, sick or well, late or on-time - the bed is made. Harper's bed will be the same way one day. I just think one of the best ways to make you feel organized or that your house is clean is to have beds that are made.
3. I never leave dishes in the sink. I run the dishwasher every night and in the morning while Harper eats breakfast - I unload it and so I can load it up again during the day.
4. I also clean while I cook. If I use something - I clean it up right then instead of making a big pile for later.
5. I try to designate either one room or one major task a day. As in Mondays I clean the kitchen, Tuesday the family room and on and on OR Mondays I dust, Tuesdays I mop, etc. I hate saving all the cleaning for one day. I'd rather just clean a little every day.

Show Us Your life - Mission Trips

I have never been on an actual mission trip but I'm DYING to. Hopefully we will go once Harper is old enough to go and understand! I can't wait for that!
The closest I've been would be the Compassion trip back in November. It was more of a Vision Trip! But I have a heart for missions and hope that one day I will be able to go somewhere! In the meantime - there are always ways to give and do work in my own backyard and that is missions as well!

I would love to hear about your mission trips you have been on and what you saw, learned, and how you were changed!

Show Us Your Life - Favorite Charities

I apologize that this post is up so late on the day Friday - being out of town threw me off. But it's up now!!!

I am excited to read about different charities you are all affiliated with! It's always good to broaden our horizons and find ways to get involved and help others. I think we each probably find charities that have somehow touched us or that our life experiences have led us to.

My number one charity isn't really a charity but it's the place we give the most to and that is to our church. We tithe and hopefully give more than 10% usually because we feel that is commanded by God in the Bible. We believe that everything we have came from God and is His anyway so giving back a portion of our earnings isn't so much about giving God money - but a step of trust and faith. I haven't always tithed but I've seen God's provision as we trust Him in giving Him our tithes.

The other charities we have given to especially in the last year include the Ronald McDonald House, the Promise House (a home for unwed mothers here in our state) and Compassion International. Those are three that I believe firmly in. But there are so many other wonderful places to give money to and help. I've love to hear of places you actually get in the trenches and help with as well as donate money to!

So my typical day:

Every day of mine is different because we have scheduled things like Bible Study, MOPS, or play group nearly every day. But if we were to have a full day at home - this is what it would look like.

Harper is my alarm clock. She normally wakes up between 6 and 7. She eats breakfast and while she is in her high chair I clean up the kitchen, unload the dishwasher, etc. We then spent the next hour or two playing. Harper plays in our family room with all her toys or runs around our kitchen pulling everything out she can get her hands on. ha!
She goes down for a nap from 9 - 11. I use this time to take a shower and get ready and then do some kind of household chore: laundry, a little cleaning, etc.
Harper gets up and we play more and then have lunch.
After lunch we usually either run errands or spend more time playing. Here lately she has begun taking an afternoon nap. During this nap I cook dinner or sometimes I just sit and watch TV or read e-mails.
After her afternoon nap - it's more playing, chasing her around the house. I feed her dinner around 5 and then it's bath and bed around 6:30.
After she goes to bed, Scott and I eat dinner and then usually spend time watching TV. This is usually the only time I have to blog or answer e-mails.
I normally go to bed between 11 and 12.

(Note: I know today was supposed to be things you collect but we moved it out one week because I just felt led to do this instead. I talked about it in a couple of posts .....but we will do that next week).

Today is a day for you to link up if you have a blog dedicated to ministering to people. If you have something that can help encourage others through something you have been through. It may be infertility, adoption, singleness, the loss of a child, the loss of a spouse, financial issues, abuse, addictions ..........so many other things.

Today is Show Us Your Life - Valentines Dates or Memories

I couldn't honestly remember a great Valentines Date. Since we have been married -we mostly stay at home on valentines to avoid crowds. I try to cook a special dinner or something.

Probably my best memory of Valentines (besides last year when Harper was just a month old and my parents came and kept her and Scott and I had a lunch date. That was our first time away from her and we probably weren't gone an hour and we talked about her the entire time. That is a very special memory for me) was Valentines 2000. I closed on my first house that year. I was single and I felt so grown up.

Scott and I were dating long distance at the time and he came up and helped me and my parents move me in. He gave me a pretty necklace and two dozen roses that year. I will just always remember that Valentines Day! I will always remember that house. After we got married, we lived there a year before we moved. But until we got married - that was the only time in my life I lived alone. And I'm glad I had that opportunity. I don't want to do it again. ha !

Today on Show Us your Life Friday - we are talking Beauty tips and Hair and Make-Up products!

I have been looking forward to today because girls - I need some tips. Especially make-up. I have NO IDEA how to do makeup. Mine is pitiful. And a lot of you ask me - I have never used a skin care regimen. I know I need to - but I'm lazy.

I love Bare Essentuals make-up. That is the only make-up I have ever found that I like and seems to give good coverage without feeling heavy.

And I discovered Merle Norman Spice Sachet lip pencil right before I got married over 6 years ago and it has been my faithful friend. PLEASE never get discontinued. It is the perfect shade!

Other than that - I'm out. I REALLY need a make-up artist to come and help me.
Carmindy - I really need your help!

As far as hair - I just couldn't live without my Chi flat iron and now Freeze it hair spray! And a big round brush and hair dryer. I have curly, wavy hair and it takes work to get it into a straight bob. ha!

Show Us Your Life - FASHION TIPS

Today is Show Us Your Life - Fashion Tips. And honestly I'm a little "chawed". I just feel real out of style most days. I have learned to just figure out what works for me. I like to stay as close to "in style" as I can but I'm 36 and have big hips and let's face it - all styles will not work.

And my style has changed over the last year. I always used to wear heels and now I NEVER do. I've traded all my shoes in for flats and flat boots and I'm so happy. I just can't do heels anymore. Especially being a SAHM and carrying around a big baby and a lot of gear all the time. I refuse to be in pain. ha!

I guess my fashion tip is just my signature look. I say it's my signature look only because people are always dressing like this and then saying or sending me pics and saying "hey - I look like Kelly today". ha! I do this out of complete necessity - it stretches my wardrobe.

My main fashion wardrobe consists of a lot of dresses and in the winter I put turtlenecks or long sleeve shirts underneath with tights or leggings and flats or mostly boots. And then in the summer - I pair the same dresses with flip flops or sandals. As you can tell in this pictures - I've started putting Harper in the same thing. I find myself putting long sleeved shirts under dresses for her all the time. ha!
I got this cute Gold Dress at Ann Taylor loft on sale for $20!!! So I put my black t-neck and tights underneath and I just loved it. I had a big pearl necklace to wear with it.

Here is Harper sporting the look once again.

I found I had to really change my wardrobe when I was nursing......whoa - that's a whole other post for a different day. I'm so glad to be free to wear what I want again and not worry constantly about how Harper was going to eat. ha!

Ya'll are all at different places in life - so it will be fun to hear different tips - or what you like to wear. Maybe I can get ideas on how to stretch my wardrobe even more. I've been adding scarfs to plain black dresses and that has been fun and I've also worn jeans a LOT more this year. I have never worn jeans in my life until this past year but life changes, huh?

And leggings have become my best friend! SO much more comfortable than jeans but you can make them dressier like under a dress or tunic and better than yoga or sweat pants! LOVE them!

I love Ann Taylor Loft - especially lately. They have had the cutest stuff! Very girly and ruffly. It can be a little pricey BUT they have great sales!

I love this one!

And I think this would would be great for Razorback games! :-) Or any other time!

Show Us Your Life - Diets, Exercise Programs, Weight loss ideas

I have always struggled with my weight. I've never been HUGELY overweight but it's been up and down on the scale since I went to college and was introduced to the greatness of my college cafeteria. ha!

I've actually lost 5 pounds over the last week or two just by cutting sugar. (of course when you have been eating raw cookie dough and oreos and drinking real coke and then you cut that out - it's not surprising to lose a little). After this week I REALLY want to start exercising and I'm hoping by spring/summer to be back to my pre-fertility drug weight.

I don't have any great tips but I am hoping you DO! I'd love to hear success stories - what works for you -your favorite form of exercises - diet programs that work - low calorie recipes - before/after pictures .......anything on this subject will qualify!!!

Today is New Years Resolutions/Goals! Maybe reading each others will give us ideas on things we can work on! Can't wait to read yours!

FIVE THINGS I WANT TO IMPROVE IN 2010:

1. I could be a lot better wife and mother (and Scott is saying "Amen!") I was a very rookie mom this year and I have to admit - I had a lot of hard days. It's a LOT harder than it looks. And there were days Scott came home and probably wish he hadn't of because I took it out on him. I just want to enjoy every moment with Harper this year and realized the days are long but the years are short. I want to focus on giving Scott more of my attention. He deserves it.

2. I want to be a better friend. I probably dropped the ball on a lot of my friends because I just felt up to my eyeballs most days this year. I want to do better at sending notes when I know friends need it. Or doing favors and not expecting one in return. I want to go back to having people over for dinner more often.

3. I want to be a better Christian. I want to spend more time with God. I neglected Him a lot this year. I loved and worshipped Him every day - but I didn't always spend time talking to Him or reading His word or trying to KNOW HIM more.

4. I want to be more healthy. Yes - I need to lose 20 pounds and I just can NOT put down the chick-fil-a and oreos. I want to exercise this year. I want to feel good about myself again.

5. I want to be a better daughter/DIL. Our families have done so much for us this year - I want to be better at doing for them and showing them I love them.

I don't do a lot of baking at Christmas time (or really ever) but I really want to start. Some of my sweet neighbors brought over a thing of goodies last night. As Harper gets older I want to bake with her and make that a tradition. I know a lot of us always have cookie exchange parties to go to this time of year.

Show Us Your Life - Christmas Trees

Hello!!!

Welcome to my home! I'm excited to share my Christmas decorations and participate in the Nester Christmas Tour of Homes. (If you are a blog reader of mine - I'm not going to do a MckLinky - I thought we could all just sign up on the Nester!)

This is my bright red and green and zebra tree in our dining room. I got this tree for like 75% off a couple of years ago. I used it as our main tree last year. I have kind of collected the ornaments over the last few years and I made some of them.
Last year I made a lot of these monogram ornaments for gifts - and I made them for our family!
I love the big present ornament and the zebra ornament above it. I got both of those at major sales after the holidays! (It pays to shop after not before!)
Another fun idea was to get large (or small) balls and instead of hooks - use fun ribbon to tie them on the tree.
Our first year in this house - we bought this big 9 ft tree. I use a lot of golds and browns on it.
I bought these letter ornaments several years ago and bought 2 H's - just in case I ever finally got my Harper and Hudson. Or Harper and (Hadlee, Hattie, Holden, Hutton.....whatever name we use if we have another girl). ha!

I used stickers to put our monogram on large balls on this tree also!

Some of my favorite gold and brown ornaments

When I was single - I had this little tree and now we use it in our kitchen and I use only gold ornaments and gold mesh. My kitchen and breakfast room are all in golds and browns so I love how it looks in here.

And this year I added this little pink tree in Harper's room and I'm in LOVE with it! I took down her changing pad off the dresser my dad made her a few weeks ago because she is just too big and I'm not just using it like a dresser top.

I love the pink, green and brown ornaments. I've been saving these for a while to use!

A few of these ornaments on this tree were special gifts to her this year.

Show Us Your Life - Pets

Today is all about Show us your Pets! Most of you know that this is my dog Dawson. Scott gave him to me for Christmas in 2002. A year before we got married. We had gone to Barnes and Noble one day in November or December and someone was outside selling little Bichon puppies. I had never seen a Bichon before but I held one and loved it so much. And then right before Christmas one cold night - Scott rang my doorbell and when I opened it - he pulled this little white ball of fur out of his coat. And it was love at first sight.
I put him in my bathroom right off my bedroom that night with a baby gate. He bounced and cried all night. I tried it again the next night. Same thing. So the third night I gave in and put him in bed with me. Seven years later and he still sleeps with me. Only now it's right between me and Scott.
Bichons are great dogs because they have sweet personalities and they don't shed! They are great for people with allergies.
But in these two pictures - you can see how life has changed this year. Dawson used to be the grand dog. He used to be #1 around here.
And someone has stolen his place. (Don't worry - my dad wasn't driving the 4 wheeler in either of these pictures. They just sat on it for pictures).

But Dawson will always be my first baby and I dread the day he ever goes to doggie heaven. He is my little shadow. He follows me constantly. He loves Scott but he is a momma's baby.

Show Us your Life - Thanskgiving Recipes and Traditions

Today is Show us your life Thanksgiving Recipes and Traditions!

I am SOOOOOOOOOO late getting this up - I apologize!

We have the traditional Turkey at our house. My mom usually makes cornbread dressing, green bean casserole and potato casserole. We have the relish dish - with pickles and olives - do ya'll have that? It was always my brother and I's favorite thing! And pumpkin and pecan pies! Yum!

This is the potato casserole we always have:

Hashbrown Casserole

1 package frozen hashbrown casseroles
1 8 oz container sour cream
1 can cream of chicken soup
2 cups cheddar cheese
Cornflakes

1 stick butter melted

Combine 1st 4 ingredients and put in a 9 x12 baking dish. Top with cornflakes and melted butter. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.

Show Us Your LIfe - Fall Decorations

First of all - last week was a great success!!! I hope you all enjoyed shopping! I'm going to keep that post up over on the Show Us your Life blog! (I haven't put it up yet but it will be soon!) I thought maybe we could do that every 3-4 months! It's a great way to feature Moms who make stuff and a great place to get good finds!

Well - I don't really decorate for fall. This is about the extent of it. In fact I forgot to take a picture today so this was last year and this year I haven't even bought mums yet (mostly because I can't figure out how in the world I would get big mums and Harper around in a store). I LOVE fall but I'm just not big on decorating for it. But I'm SO ready to get going on Christmas. I realize it is going to be insane this year with a little monkey in my house who is into everything but I'm going for it anyway!

But I can't wait to see your fall decorations ...............maybe you will motivate me for next year!

What do all these pictures have in common?

These are just a few things that I have either bought Harper or we have been given as a gift that have been made by other women/moms/ladies like yourselves. WAY more creative women than I will EVER be.

I love buying stuff from other women because I know it helps them (and it helps me!) Plus shopping on websites and etsy is so much more fun than the "mall" and can be done anytime and anywhere. And you find so many cute and unique things! For yourself, your child or your home!

I thought it would be a great way to either showcase what you make or shop until you drop before the holidays! So if you have a website - please link on and put in the subject a hint at what it is (exp: bows, picture frames, pillowcase dresses, etc......)

PLEASE NOTE: Please don't include any home based businesses such as Avon, Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, etc..... Those are all wonderful things but this is a carnival for homemade items. All others will be removed. Thanks!!!!

Show Us Your Life - Tailgates and Favorite Teams

I think you all know I'm crazy about my Arkansas Razorbacks! My parents both went to the U of A and we have been coming to games as long as I can remember. I thought I would share some of my favorite recent pictures and memories (even though I have a lifetime of these).
In 2006 - College Game Day came to Fayetteville for the first time when AR and TN were both ranked. We got up early and came and watched the show and then we BEAT the vols that night. We were not quite "#1" but that night it felt like it!
One of our favorite game day experiences is when our families can come and be with us. Scott's parents usually come up for one game every year. They are coming this weekend for the Auburn game only just the men are going this time.
My parents come for every game so it always gives us an excuse to see them. My dad also comes to most basketball games - he is a crazy fan. I love basketball SO MUCH too but my very favorite is Football. I can not stand baseball (sorry to all of you who love it).
In September 2003 - Scott and I went to Austin with my family to watch the Hogs beat Texas. That was so fun but it was also the HOTTEST I have ever been in my life. It was an 11:00 kickoff and we were sitting in the direct sun. It's also the most sunburnt I've ever been.
Scott and I went to Los Angeles to see Arkansas play USC in the coliseum a few years ago. It was such a fun trip. The game - not so much. I've tried to erase the score from my memory but I'm pretty sure it was like 77-14. yikes.
In 2002 I hitched along with a group of people going to watch the hogs play in Knoxville. I only knew a few of this group but I've always wanted to go to a game in Neylend Stadium so bad. I had a great time but once again we lost. In 6 overtimes. BRUTAL. The Tennessee people were SO nice - I would love to go there again. It's a dream of mine to visit all SEC stadiums at least once before I die. I really need to get moving on that. I have 10 more to go.
I love this picture because it was Harper's FIRST Razorback game. I was about 5 months pregnant. This was also the first time I really felt Harper kick a lot - during the game. I guess all my screaming and jumping got her excited. ha!
My friend Hillary is as crazy as I am about the hogs. In fact - we got season tickets the same year and out of almost 80,000 seats - we wound up right next to each other which to this day we still think is amazing. She got married last year and we all posed with Hog noses! How cute is that? I wish we would have done that at our wedding!
And of course my favorite tradition now is dressing Harper up for game day. I can't wait until we can start taking her to games. It will probably be a few years but I hope she grows up loving college football and the hogs as much as I do. I'm pretty sure she has no choice.

The Razorbacks have a tradition of Calling the Hogs! We do it all the time at games, pep rallys, just randomly walking down the street (just kidding). We raise our arms and shake our hands and yell:
Whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Pig Sooie
Whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Pig Sooie
Whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Pig Sooie
and then shake our fists and say "RAZORBACKS"

Our team also has the tradition of running out into an "A" formed by the band at every game!

Hog fans love to tailgate as pretty much every school does. What you will probably find the most at each tailgate is Barbeque. We love BBQ in Arkansas. Which is ironic - if you think about the fact we are eating "pork". ha!

Show Us Your Life - Baby Gear

Notice next week we will showing off our teams, tailgating, traditions, etc. and then the following week you will be able to feature your home based businesses - things you make and sell - and we can all do a little early holiday shopping and support other moms! (If that goes well - we can try to do it again in the spring/summer)

When I was pregnant with Harper - I did a little blog polling about what I really needed for a baby and what really wasn't necessary. It helped me a lot so I thought it would be great if we all shared again and then all of those who are pregnant or hoping to be pregnant can refer to this!
The thing to remember is all babies are different - so what worked great for me - doesn't mean it will work for you but I am still happy to share my experiences!

THINGS THAT WORKED FOR US:
1. Bouncy seat - I had one made by Boppy. This was one of our best buys. Harper slept in it for the first probably 8 weeks of her life. It was also a great place to lay her down and it always kept her happy and calm. We had to quit using it around 4-5 months once she started climbing out.
2. Boppy Pillow - if you are nursing - I highly recommend it. It was the perfect fit for Harper to lay on and it made it so comfortable. We are still using it. She took a lot of great naps on that boppy pillow.
3. Pack and Play - Harper slept in this until she was 6 months old and we finally moved her to her own room. It was also a great changing table for those first 6 months. And this weekend - I'm finally converting it to a play pen for her and I think we will continue to get great use. (and in the meantime - it's been a great clothes hanger in our bedroom - ha!)
4. Swing - we had a Graco swing. Pretty much everything we bought was neutral colored so if we have a boy we can re-use. At first Harper HATED the swing but eventually she liked it. She took a few great naps in this as well. We quit using it around 5 months because she kept trying to climb out.
5. Exersaucer - she didn't like this at first but it's been a lifesaver for the last 3-4 months. She loves being in it and she sits in it every day and plays and eats a snack and just laughs and has so much fun. And I can cook dinner or take a shower!
6. Car seat/stroller system - we bought one by Graco and have loved it. We have taken a lot of walks in her stroller both when the car seat was in it and now facing out. And it folds down nicely. It's been great for shopping or walking.
7. Bath tub with sling - Harper loved bath time. We always used this in the kitchen sink. Just in the last month we have started giving her a bath in the bathtub sitting up and it is so much better - we both love baths this way. But her little bathtub worked great (a yellow $20 kind from Wal-Mart).
8. Humidifier - We have a cool mist and a warm one and they have both been important and have helped Harper sleep. I highly recommend having both.
9. Hooter Hider - if you are nursing - this is a MUST! (if you ever plan to leave the house)
10. Praise Baby DVD's - we have Baby Enstein but Harper is not the biggest fan but she NEVER gets tired of these and the music is so soothing and inspirational. It's a blessing to me and her.

THINGS WE DIDN'T LIKE OR USE
1. Diaper Genie - I don't know if we didn't like it - we just opted out of this. It's been plenty easy to keep a small waste basket and just empty it in our big trash barrell every other day or so.
2. Wipes warmer - just never wanted to take the time to use it and since the hospital didn't use one - we never even tried.
3. Bumbo - I liked this but she probably only sat in it a few times for me to take pictures or maybe a few minutes a day. I was always worried she would fall over in it so I really didn't use it much. Probably not worth the money to me.
4. Sling/Baby Carrier - I had two different kinds and Harper HATED both - never used either one. But a lot of babies love these - so you never know.
5. I spent a lot of time worry about bottles and we have yet to use any. ha! Harper has probably taken less than 5 bottles in her life.
6. Swaddler blankets - regular blankets worked just fine and Harper really didn't love being swaddled after a few weeks anyway.

CAKE BALLS

This is super easy and you can make it any kind of variety you like. I've seen yellow cake and chocolate icing and chocolate and chocolate. But being the good Southern girl I am - I LOVE red velvet cake so I thought this would be good.

All you do is bake the cake mix according to directions

When it's still warm - crumble it up in a bowl and mix in a can of frosting (I used cream cheese with the red velvet!)
IMPORTANT STEP: Refrigerate the cake and frosting for about an hour before you start making balls!

I used this handy little scooper from Pampered chef to scoop balls

Melt almond bark (either vanilla or chocolate - depending on your cake) and dip balls in the bark. You could use toothpicks or a fork - but I used this egg separator and it worked GREAT!

And voila - one of the yummiest things you will ever taste!!!

SHOW US HOW YOUR LIFE - Dinner Recipes

(I'm sorry if I messed anyone up - I had to move the schedule out a week because of my vacation last week - I've updated the schedule here)

I'm excited about this blog tour because I am in a DINNER rut. I haven't updated my recipe blog in ages because for the last couple of months I have basically rotated about 3-4 things every night for dinner. It's pitiful. So I can't wait to get ideas.

This is our dinner at least two nights a week. It's easy and fairly healthy.

6 tablespoons olive oil
2 lemons, 1 thinly sliced, 1 juiced
4 cloves garlic
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
3/4 lb green beans
8 small red potatoes, quartered
4 chicken breasts

Preheat oven to 450. Coat a large baking dish with 1 tablespoon olive oil. Arrange lemon slices from 1 lemon in a single layer on the bottom of the dish. In large bowl combine remaining olive oil, lemon juice of 2nd lemon, garlic, salt and pepper. Add green beans and toss to coat. Using tongs, remove green beans and arrange them on top of lemon slices. Add potatoes to same olive oil mixture and coat. Arrange on inside edge of dish on top of the beans. (I think it’s so pretty!) I also add a lemon pepper mixture on top of everything. It adds a lot of flavor.Place chicken in olive oil mixture and coat. Place chicken in dish. Roast for 40-50 minutes. Remove chicken and continue roasting potatoes/beans if necessary.

I use canned cut green beans because I love canned beans. Put I'm sure fresh or frozen would be just as good!

SHOW US HOW YOUR LIFE - Wedding Showers

I'm really out of the wedding circles these days. I have only hosted two wedding showers in the last couple of years. I guess I'll have to wait until all my friend's kids start getting married to host anymore.
We had my friend Hillary's wedding shower at my house last year. Her colors were green and black. Her new last name started with a "B".

How cute are these petit fours??? I got these for her lingerie shower the night before her wedding. I just think these are TOO cute!
We played a fun game and picked out names for each "nightie" she got and then wrote them all on pieces of paper so on her honeymoon - her husband could choose a "name" and then she would wear the corresponding gown. It was a lot of fun.
I had several really nice showers when I was engaged. This shower was thrown by Scott's home church. It was so nice and different. They had us come up on a Saturday and open all the gifts with just our family. And then the shower was the next afternoon and they laid out all the opened gifts on tables for everyone to look at and then I basically stood in the house and everyone came and spoke to me.
This isn't a very good picture but it was me and the two Judys (our moms) in front of the beautiful table.

Here are people looking at a table that held our Christmas dishes and some other things.

My parent's church (that I grew up in) threw me a very nice shower also (you can tell we got married in the fall). This is me, my mom and my mam-ma.
This was the traditional kind where you sit in a circle and open gifts while everyone watches you - very chawing to me!

SHOW US HOW YOU LIVE - Baby Showers

For all of you in the stage of life that I am - today is a great day for you! We are going to be sharing Baby Shower Ideas. If you are like me - I throw/attend a lot of baby showers a year these days. I thought I would just show pictures from a few that I could find that we have done in the recent past.

The first two pictures are a shower at my house for my best friend Laurie when she had her first daughter Emily. A tradition in our Sunday School class is to throw a big shower for the first baby and then meet at a restaurant for #2, #3, and on and just give gifts. I think that's a great way to do it.
I threw this shower for a friend I worked with. My office came over and we had finger foods!
We had a "Sweet Things" shower for my friend whose last name is "Sweet". It was all desserts!
I made this diaper cake for that shower. It was my first attempt - not the greatest but kind of cute!
This was a sports themed shower for a little boy - I LOVE the petit fours we had for this shower. (These came from a bakery - WISH I was this talented)
The table for the sports theme - we used balls and pom poms to decorate and served "sports" foods!
This was another shower we had for a little boy. I think we did dips and sweets for this one!
This was at my church shower. My sweet friends threw the nicest shower for me and Harper
A girl in our class makes AMAZING cookies and she now has a full time career making cookies for everyone's parties.

I've been to several more recently but these were ones I thought I would share. I'm anxious to see all of your ideas because we have a ton of showers coming up in my circle of friends!

P.S. I don't know if Petit Fours are a "southern" thing or not - but some of you asked. They are just "little cakes". They are a mouthful of goodness! ha! Literally - it's just a bite sized cake. I love them because you don't have to deal with cutting a big cake and one or two petit fours are "just right" for most people. Plus you can decorate them in the cutest ways!

Show Us How You Live - Favorite Vacations

This week - we are showing off our favorite vacation spots.

One of my favorite places ever is Gulf Shores, AL. We are headed there soon!!

But my other two VERY favorite places I've been are NYC and Kauai.

In May 2004 - I went to NYC with 3 of my best friends. My friend Megan actually won the trip so everything was free but our food. We went to 2 Broadway shows and did all the sightseeing stuff. Here are Laurie and I in front of Lady Liberty!
I love this picture with the city behind us. This is Laurie, Hillary, me and Megan.
We discovered H&M on that trip and we literally went every day. We would buy a bunch of stuff and go back to the hotel every night and have a style show and decide what we liked and didn't like and then take stuff back and start all over. It was so fun! Laurie and I were waiting to go in one morning. :-)

That was SUCH a fun trip. I want to go back SO badly!
And this is a little heaven on earth. Scott and I have been to Kauai twice and we love it. We stayed at the same hotel in the same room both times and this was our view out our window. Can you understand why we requested the same room the second time.
This is the night we ate a little hole in the wall restaurant and we were sitting literally 10 feet away from Pierce Brosnon and his family. Actually Pierce (James Bond) held the door open for us as we came in and I nearly passed out.
We tried to be very "bachelorette" and took a helicopter ride to see the island. Only on the show it seems so romantic and in reality we were both about to lose our breakfast and I had to keep my eyes closed and hold a barf bag most of the ride. ha! But this was the view when I opened my eyes.

This was coming up the climb from our favorite beach - Hideaways. It is very hard to get through - you have to climb down a cliff basically but it's so worth it - it was GORGEOUS! (I had to be very careful because I was pregnant with Harper at the time!)
We waited until the last morning to try and take pictures in front of our beach and it was so foggy - you could not see the mountains or view. Oh well - lesson learned.

Hopefully we will move to Kauai one day and you can all come visit us.

Show Us How you Live - Wedding Receptions and Honeymoons

Tonight is the last of the Wedding Series. I don't have a whole lot of wedding reception pictures. We had our reception in the old sanctuary of my parent's church. It was really pretty. We had iron lanterns and fall leaves as centerpieces on the tables. The tables all had brown tablecloths. We had a lot of good food. This is us cutting our cake.

Our grooms cake was pretty - chocolate with grapes on it for a fall feel.

We honeymooned in Maui, Hawaii. We stayed at the Westin Maui.

I'm glad we are doing this because I haven't looked at our honeymoon pictures in probably 5 years and it was fun to look through them. Except for the fact that I realized how thin and tan I was on our honeymoon - that made me a little sad. ha! It was such a wonderful trip and we were SO happy!

We rented a yellow convertible but we only had it one day of our vacation. So we really only got around to see the island for one full day. The rest of the time we just stayed at our hotel and ate at restaurants nearby. That was great and worked fine for us - we just wanted to relax but someday I'd like to go back to Maui and see more of the island.

This was on our dinner cruise. This was NOT romantic. We payed good money to go on this "dinner" cruise and they brought out stouffer's lasagna in tin pans and I got sick the minute I got on the boat and had to lay on the floor for the 3 hour cruise. We ended up getting McDonalds to go and going back to our hotel room so we could watch Arkansas play South Carolina in football (this was November). We played them in Little Rock on ESPN on a Thurs night on a cold night. It was very surreal sitting in our room at 4 in the afternoon and watching a live game being played in the dark with everyone wearing coats. ha!

Did anyone else go to Maui on your honeymoon? We loved it and it will always be a special memory for us. I always dreamed of going to Hawaii on my honeymoon and it was fun to make that dream a reality!!! It was totally worth waiting for!

SHOW US YOUR LIFE - Wedding Party and Flowers/Ceremony

Several of you have sent me buttons for this blog series and I'm still working on picking one to use. So hopefully by next week.............at least I finally got all the links in one place! ha!

So this week is all about showing us the rest of your wedding (except the reception). Tell us about your wedding.......what songs did you have, who was in your wedding party, .....really anything you want to show or tell about.

I'm SO sad because I just don't have any pictures to put on here. I'm too tired and lazy to go scan any in so I'll just put up two I happen to have on my computer.

We got married on November 1, 2003. I love fall and I love fall colors. I still really like my bridesmaid dresses and we all carried fall flowers. I got married at my parent's church in the town I grew up in. My dad is a Baptist Pastor and he not only walked me down the aisle but he performed the ceremony and that was special to me. At the end of the wedding - he gave us the Bible he used to marry us and he and mom had engraved our names on it. It's the Bible I use today. Scott and I put together a wedding slide show that we showed at our wedding that showed pictures of us growing up and then during our dating years. There were three songs in that slide show "A page is turned" by Bebo Norman, "Could Not ask for more" by Edwin McCain, and "Walk with Me" (I can't remember who it's by but it's a great song). Oh we also had the Razorback fight song in the middle with all of our Razorback pictures. I had a family friend sing "My Reedemer" by Stephen Curtis Chapman.
We got married at 2 in the afternoon so after we did pictures, we ate pizza for lunch while we waited for the wedding. So my mom had us all aprons monogrammed with our names on them so we didn't get messed up! ha!
I had 4 bridesmaids: Laurie - she was my maid of honor. She is my best friend who I've been friends with since college. Next is Megan - a sweet friend I've had for years and she moved away to NC right after her wedding and I miss her still. Next is Hillary. She and Megan were best friends from college and Laurie and I got to know them many years ago. She got married last September and moved to Little Rock. And last is Kandi. Kandi was my Matron of Honor and was my college roommate. She and her husband are celebrating FIFTEEN years of marriage today which doesn't seem possible. Each of these girls are so special to me. I was so thankful to have them with me on my big day!

I need to note that we got married in the fall and I had to schedule around the Razorback's. We got married on an away game day. But the hogs played at Kentucky that day and it ended up being a 7 overtime game that we won. So we missed a very exciting game (but it was worth it).

I had a white strapless dress with some beading on top and a fairly large veil

There is a famous bridal shop in Arkansas called Low's. It's in East Arkansas in an old hotel and it's huge. They have two annual big sales and we went the summer before my wedding and got my dress for half off. It was a fast, frantic time (my mom and I went) but I really loved my dress. Here I am with my grandparents at my wedding.
We didn't wind up with a whole lot of wedding pictures and we have NO digital ones - all prints (I've only been married almost 6 years .... how is it possible to have no digital pics. ha!) But this one is one of my favorites!

I can't wait to see your dresses. I love wedding dresses. One of my favorite shows is "Say Yes to the Dress" on TLC. I loved my dress but I'd love to go back and get a different dress in a different style. Too bad you can't get a new dress every years but keep the same groom! :-)

If I had to pick now - this would be the style I would want!

SHOW US WHERE YOU LIVE - YARDS AND GARAGES

Our yard is really nothing to write home about. We have a fairly good sized back yard but it's just grass - we haven't put any work into landscaping it. Our front is pretty normal landscaping but we did add two things I love. I have always loved big, huge magnolia trees. But you don't find a lot of those in subdivisions.
But I did get a dwarf magnolia tree to plant a few years ago and I love it. You can see in that first picture some of my blooms.
Last year we planted a crepe myrtle tree. I love crepe myrtles. We had a Japanese maple that I loved but it got killed by a late freeze and never recovered. Actually it was a snow in April.
And I think I shared how we recently converted our garage into a gym. Scott has gotten a lot of use out of it. Me - not so much. But maybe when it's not so hot. Or I get some time. Or energy. ha!
I know there are a lot of green thumbs out there...........so let's see those yards/garages!

SHOW US WHERE YOU LIVE - MASTER BEDROOM

So - our bedroom. I've decided in the last few months that I'm ready for a change in our room. I'm not real fond of our comforter set. It's just time for something new. I bought our bedroom furniture when I was still single and had bought my first home. My mom advised me to buy a king bed and that I would thank her once I was married and she was right.
Nothing much on the other wall but our armoire (and Harper's bouncy seat). Our room is where all the baby stuff has collected I guess.
You can see where Harper is sleeping in her pack and play but this weekend we are going to try and move to her room. I'll let you know how it goes. We actually tried tonight and realized the sun sets on that set of the house and she has an early bedtime and it's WAY too bright in there so tomorrow I'm going to look for some black out panels.
This is kind of what I want to do in our room. I REALLY want a big fluffy white comforter and then a brown coverlet and brown curtains with pillows with maybe some blue accents.
Am I crazy with a baby and a dog that sleeps with us to do white??? What do you think???
These are all along the idea of what I want to do in the next few months. I'm about to make some changes to our family room and then maybe towards the end of the year I'll start on our bedroom. In the meantime - I'm shopping for ideas so I can't wait to see what you all have done in your master bedrooms!

P.S. Can you believe Michael Jackson died??? I know he defined the word CRAZY but there is no way if you are anywhere near my age that you can't tell me you didn't love the Thriller album or remember seeing that video for the first time? I was in 5th grade and MTV had just started and we got to watch the video in class (I have no idea why?) I was probably wearing friendship bead bracelets and playing atari at home after bringing home my pacman lunchbox and listening to "Beat It", "Billie Jean" and "PYT".

Are ya'll enjoying the home tours???
We have a few more weeks of this and then if you can think of any suggestions and enjoy the Friday tours - maybe we could find some other themes? I've had wedding pictures suggested. Any other ideas?

Today is bathrooms. We have 3 bathrooms. This is the bathroom that is between the guest room and Harper's room. When we moved in - I found a bunch of "jungle" themed things that went with a set of pictures I already had (you can see in the mirror) - so I just kind of went with that. I think I got everything at T J Maxx. I've been wanting to change it up but couldn't decide if I wanted to make it girly to go with Harper's room or what. I have other rooms I'd rather work on first. :-)
When Scott and I got married - we decided it was in the best interest of both of us to have separate bathrooms. ha! Best move we ever made. So this is Scott's bathroom. Honestly - it works so well for us. We can get ready at the same time and never argue over counter space or showers. Except when we go on vacations and have to share a bathroom - it throws us off. ha! ha!
And this is MY bathroom (or the master bath). Do any of you have glass showers? They are SO hard to keep clean? I'd love to hear your tips if you have any!
I'm afraid bathrooms (at least mine) aren't too exciting but I know some of you will have very interesting ones and it's always fun to peek!!!

THE OFFICE!!!

We are lucky enough to have two offices in our house. So we each have one. I haven't done hardly anything with Scott's office - it's just kind of a man cave. His old couch from before we were married with Cowboys blanket laying on it. Lots of Hog stuff.

I love this window with the window seat. It holds a lot of stuff and gives us extra storage.
Dawson loves to look out this window and bark at anything that moves. Especially the mail man, garbage men, or the UPS men. And especially when Harper is sleeping. UGH!

And in our laundry room - is my little office. I used to sit in here all the time B.H. (that's Before Harper) but now I really don't have much time. But sometimes at night I will sit in here to try and check up on blogs or e-mail. I mostly use a laptop in the living room where I can feed her and surf the internet at the same time.

Scott mounted this little TV for me. And made me this corner shelf.
My sweet friend Kelli made me this little name picture. LOVE IT!

Sitting on my desk is my Bible and a reminder to order seat backs for our football tickets.

I LOVE this lamp

I made this bulletin board last year. These are cards and notes people sent me when I was struggling with infertility. They are very special to me. I also have several precious birth announcements.
My diaper bag and purse always sit right here just waiting to be picked up and taken on the go!
I had planned way before I got pregnant on finding a special diaper bag and then I was given about 5 different ones - mostly made for me and I love them all and switch out a lot. I will post about them some day soon.

Okay - let's see your offices! I know not everyone has an office but I'm sure we will enjoy touring the ones that do. I have to be honest - I've only made it through about 25% of the kid rooms. I have absolutely LOVED them - just ran out of time but I will make it through.

SHOW US WHERE YOU LIVE - CHILDRENS' ROOMS

So I'm excited about this week because I think Children's rooms are so much fun!!! It's the one room in the house where if you are a conservative decorator - you can let loose and have fun and use color. (or at least - that's how I feel).
If you don't have children - but would love to have some one day - it would be great if you wanted to just post your ideas for a dream nursery. If you are like me - I had nurseries planned in my head for years. I'd love to see your ideas!!! Or you can skip and just enjoy the tour and join back up next week.

This is Harper. Welcome to her Crib. (literally). ha!

This is her room looking in from the hallway. It is an explosion of pink and brown with a little green mixed in and I love it.
I had this sign made by Kim and I hope it will stay in her room until she leaves for college. I just adore it! It matches her bedding exactly.
A little table I have set up. I really need to work on printing out pictures of Harper to put in frames. That is on my short term to do list.
Laurie got me this sign for my birthday before I ever became pregnant with Harper. I gave a special request for this verse as we struggled with infertility because I knew in my heart that it would be hanging in our baby's room soon!
This is a day bed we have in the nursery. I don't know when we will move Harper into her room (she sleeps in a pack and play in our room right now) but when we do - I envision I might spend a night or two on that bed.
The painting above the bed was made by my lifelong friend Jamie. I told her before we ever got pregnant - that when I did - I wanted her to paint something. I love it so much. We call Harper our "baby Monkey" and this verse is my life verse for her. (and for me). It gave me hope during infertility and it especially gave me hope as the doctors told me she might not live in her first few days. I love the fact that Jamie added a real life bow on the monkey's head.
I had Harper's bedding made at Polka Tot designs. I was worried before it came that I might have been nuts and I might not like it but when I finally got it - I just skipped around because it was exactly what I wanted. I want her to stay little forever and keep this bedding forever. Too bad I'll probably take the bumpers out before she ever sleeps in here. But I just love it so much.

A sweet blogger friend, Keri, made me this bag before Harper was born and I have it hanging on her closet door. I think it's too cute to use. The other side has her monogram. PRECIOUS!
My dad made me this chest of drawers to use as a changing table/dresser. I'm so proud of it. I'm amazed at how he can build something like this. Harper will use this in her room forever and then pass it on down to her daughter I hope.
This is a bad picture but I had this frame and I painted a mat to go with it and framed Harper's 6 week, 12 week, 20 week and 3D ultrasound pictures and then a picture of her when she first came home in the center. I wanted something special to do with her ultrasound pictures.

These are all her clothes 12 months and older.

And these are her 0-3 months clothes. I'm going to have to start putting away things soon because she has grown out of a lot of these or it's too hot for some of them. I can't believe I'm already putting away clothes.
I realize she has more clothes than I've ever had in my lifetime. It's a result of two over anxious grandmothers, a mother who has been waiting and dreaming of having a little girl for years, and very sweet friends. She is a very blessed little girl. And I am a VERY blessed mother. But we are both blessed because we have a Heavenly Father who heard my prayers for her and answered them and continues to love both of us with a love I'll never understand.
